How are you all? Hope you all started enjoying Monsoon..!!! So many of you were asking why I am not uploading my Swiss travel post. I am sorry guys for keeping you awaited. Actually, I got busy in planning Priyank’s b’day and my visit to India at coming week. But, things are bit settled and I will keep you posted from time to time. 🙂
Coming to the post… Switzerland, It’s heaven on earth. Really, to set foot in Switzerland was my life time dream. If you guys following me on Snapchat, you must have already got a glimpse of the paradise. 🙂 Switzerland is well known for world’s best chocolate and watches, but perhaps its biggest draw is the breathtaking lakes, tiny towns, beautiful churches, and picturesque mountains. Although, picking the most beautiful region of Switzerland is impossible, but the Jungfrau region most definitely deserves a top ranking. The Jungfrau region starts in Interlaken, the largest town in the region. Interlaken is easy to reach by train and car from Zurich. The Jungfrau region stretches out to the Jungfrau mountain range in the south, which is Unesco World Heritage. In between, Interlaken and Jungfrau, there’s a lot of beautiful Alpine nature and little villages. We chose to stay in Wengen at Aparthotel Résidence Bernerhof hotel for our first three days of the trip.
The hotel is just about 250 meter walk from the train station. After having shower and dressed up, we directly headed to have our lunch. Although, our hotel provided a decent discount on food and beverages, but we chose Pasta and More of Hotel Victoria-Lauberhorn. This Italian restaurant has a nice selection of pasta dishes and salads. It has a warm wood decor indoors, and a lovely patio overlooking the hotel garden and mountains. We chose to have Lasagne Giardino and Spaghetti Papagallo along with Cafe latte. The food was really delicious with well servings. If you decide to stay or visit Wengen, I highly recommend this restaurant at-least once.
After having lunch, we decided to explore Interlaken for rest of the day. As the name suggests, Interlaken is positioned between two lakes – Lake Thun and Lake Brienz – and surrounded by some of Switzerland’s tallest peaks, thus making it a place for stunning views in every direction. We started with our first boat ride to Lake Brienz. The boat trip from Interlaken to Brienz takes about 75 minutes. The view from the boat was just splendid.
After having trip to Brienz, we came back to Interlaken and started exploring the beautiful city by walk. And that was the time when we came to know about Harder Kulm. Let me tell you guys, if Interlaken is considered a little piece of paradise it is all because of Harder Kulm. It is also called the home mountain of Interlaken. Harder Kulm is located above at 4337 feet to sea level. It will give you the most breathtaking bird eye view of the Jungfrau region. As, we were running behind time, we decided to take the funicular rather than hiking to reach there. We were lucky enough as we were there in the month of July, as the restaurant and funicular are open only between the months of April to October. The funicular ride takes about 10 minutes to reach there and charges you 30 CHF for the round trip but if you have the Swiss Pass it will cost 15 CHF per person. During the time, you will enjoy the beautiful view of the valley from the funicular. From the upper station, Harder Kulm is just a five minute walk. On the top, there is a beautiful castle shaped restaurant where you can enjoy, delicious swiss food with beautiful panoramic view and live music.
In front of the restaurant, there is a viewing mirror platform that hangs over the mountain. Stepping over the glass bottom platform make you feel that you are at top of the world. Standing up here just add the magical feel of this wonderful place being surrounded by the Bernese alps with view of Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau take hold-off our hearts. The best time to come to Harder Kulm is around the sun set. After wondering about couple of hours and taking some gorgeous pictures, we returned back to the funicular station. This was just at the beginning of our trip to Switzerland and we were completely blown away.
Keep following and stay connected guys to explore this paradise with our coming next posts. We will be posting up with the details of must visiting villages, beautiful alps, and recommended itinerary. There is so much beauty to come.. 🙂
Until next post, keep enjoying the pictures 🙂
