Karwachauth is around the corner. It is the time of year when you fast for the whole day for a long life of your partner. And also want to look like a Diva. So Ladies!! Are we all set to glam up this Karwachauth..?? Are you ready with outfit, makeup ideas, hairdo, mehandi design, nail-art etc etc…And most important.. a big big biggg shopping list…;) After-all, It is also the best time to “make a hole in your husband’s pocket 😀 I’m ready with all that. For my international readers who do not know much about this festival, Let me tell you in short. It is a festival of love filled with loads of colors and emotions. It is one of the most awaited festival of the year for every Hindu women. On this day, all the married women from northern part of India dressed-up like a newly wedded and practice fasting from sunrise to moon rise for their husband’s long life and good health.
Coming to my look: No matter how much I lust for a designer or western wear but the happiness that a saree brings remain unparalleled, And especially, when you are planning to go for a traditional south-Indian look, nothing can beat the richness of a Kanjivaram saree. The very first thing that Kanjivaram saree brings in my mind is Deepika Padukone (Bollywood Actress). If you guys are a movie buff like me, you all must be remembering Deepika ‘s look in movie “Chennai Express”. Her look totally blown away my mind. After getting inspired from her, I decided to wear Kanjivaram saree this Karvachuath. I opted for a bright hued saree with beautiful golden zari border. There are few essentials to keep in mind when you are styling Kanivaram to create a perfect south Indian look:
Blouse Design :
Kanjivaram saree only comes in their perfect look when paired with nicely designed blouse. I chose simple round neck blouse with little back design. You can choose boat neck, collar neck, or V- neck as well, as they all look grand and gorgeous with kanjivaram.
Kanjivaram saree without gold jewellery is like a cheeseburger without cheese! Gold and Kanjivaram saree go hand in hand and increase the richness of look. Maatha-patti (headpiece), nath (nosering), jhumkis (big earrings), bold necklaces, solid gold bangles along with plain red and green bangles are some essential accessories for attaining the perfect traditional look. But it’s also all up to you.. how much amount of gold you can carry easily. 😉
A long pleated braid or bun has become kind of a trademark for traditional look while pairing with kanjivaram. I opted for a simple classy bun as it keeps your hair out of your face and still look pretty and elegant. Girls/ladies with short hair can can use artificial hair extension to make the braid longer and bun heavy, to enhance their traditional look.
A Gajra :
A jasmine gajra paired well with the South Indian traditional look, but you can also use artificial flowers easily available in market as a substitute. And also can play safe with artificial flowers as jasmine gajra might be spoiled after few hours. I teamed up jasmine gajra with my bun. Ahhh!! I love jasmine smell 🙂
Karvachauth is all about looking elegant without having done much. So, I started with a perfect base to keep my skin looking flawless along with a deep, luscious red lipstick. Also, I opted for simple gold eye shadow instead of smudged smokey eyes to keep them simple, liner is must of-course! load on some mascara or your can use artificial eye lashes for doe-eyed effect. I also put a bindi to complete the look. And Yes, don’t forget to add some blush, that works best with your skin tone. Now, you are all ready to shine brighter than moon. 😉

I just love this festival especially wearing jewellery, applying mehandi, chirping of bangles along with loads of shopping and romantic candle light dinner with Priyank. It’s all my day though Priyank also keep fasting for my long life 😉 but we still consider it’s mine day 😉 This Karvachauth gonna be my 8th Karvachauth and 3rd officially (after being married) so being a kind of expert 😉 I am also sharing few tips for newly married divas to make this day simple and sweet :
- Start a day in advance, by putting mehandi/ heena on your hands.
- Wake up before sunrise on the day of Karvachauth to have your Sargi, and while having Sargi drink a big glass of milk and consume nuts as almonds and walnuts as they make up your energy reserves for the day.
- Try to keep yourself busy as much as you can, call your best friend or mother.
- Take a long nap in the afternoon, as it will also increase your glow while getting ready for the evening Puja. 😉
- If your family allows, during the fast, you can also eat a bowl of fresh fruits like apples, watermelon and cucumber later in the day.
- Get your husband involved, ask him to come home early.
- Do not exercise during your fast.
- Do not eat too much once your break the fast, it is important to drink plenty of water when you break the fast.
- And the most important, get your camera ready to make memories for lifetime 🙂
