We really fell in love with this beautiful island that is commonly known for its narrow street, white houses with blue doors framed by bougainvillea, pristine beaches, luxurious resorts, delicious Greek cuisines, and the great nightlife. All in all, Mykonos has all the ingredients for a perfect vacation. The colorful walking street make you stop every after few steps to take Instagram worthy pictures. 🙂 Mykonos has everything for everyone, no matter you are a solo traveler, honeymoon couple or family traveler. Although it may be one the most expensive island in Greece but it is totally worth to visit! So hold on your passport, pack your suitcase and get ready to Party… Mykonos is calling!!

Things to do in Mykonos

Visit the Windmills: The windmills are probably the most romantic and picturesque thing in Mykonos. In the main town of Chora, there are several in row right by the Aegan sea. Watch the most breathtaking sunset from the windmills.

Get your Tan on:  Mykonos is knows as home for golden sand and crystal clear water beaches. There are tons of pristine beaches like Paraga, Paradise, Super paradise, Kapari, Lia and so on for sunbathing, swimming, relaxing, and dancing on the sound of the best international DJ’s. Paradise beach is my favorite and definitely one of the nicest party beach for couples. The beach was packed full of people, loud music, plenty of sports activity and loads of food and drinks. We spent the entire day on the beach, it is the perfect beach for relaxing with a book or party with the cocktails and music. The party gets louder when the sun sets and continue until the sun rises in the next morning. It is located at 6 km south east of Mykonos town.

Get lost in the narrow street: We mostly spend our time strolling around the beautiful winding street of the town. Everything is so picturesque from the whitewashed house with colorful doors to the bougainvillea decorated balcony. I could barley get 10 feet without taking the photo. On your way, you will surely across many churches and most famous and beautiful church in the whole island Parapotiani Church.

Parapotiani Church

Sunset drinks in Little Venice: After wandering around the town, we headed towards Little Venice for the most romantic sunset drink. Little Venice is the best place in the town to watch the sunset while sipping the cocktail. This special place is full of bars and restaurant that provides the postcard worthy sunset view. I would recommend you to get your cocktail in Caprice. It is one of the best seaside bar in the town to watch the sunset while sipping the cocktail. It is named one of the 10 best bars in the world by Newsweek.

Shop till you drop: Mykonos is the shopping adventure, you can find the most famous designer labels, authentic Greek jewelry, fabulous art gallery, boutiques along with very beautiful traditional souvenirs. It is also a good idea to buy when you see something you like because you will probably get hard time to find the shop again, as these narrow streets were made to confuse pirates back in time. Most restaurants and hotels accept credit/debit cards but make sure to bring plenty of cash for small purchase.

Getting to Mykonos

Santorini to Mykonos, there is only one flight per week, so the best way to get from Santorini to Mykonos is ferry. The journey takes about 2.5 hours and there are several high-speed ferries you can take throughout the day. From the port, we were picked up by our Hotel manager.

How to go around

You can access all the beaches and main attractions by bus from the main town and by boat from old port. But, if you are not keen to public transportation, you can hire ATV/motorbike/car or rent a cab. (*Mykonos island has only 30 cabs, so if you don’t want to wait better hire a car or motorbike.) We accessed all the places through hotel taxi service provided by our hotel manager, it was bit expensive but the most convenient; especially when we are pregnant.

Where to Stay

We booked our cottage in Castel Panigirakis Hotel, which is also famous for the best sunset view in the Town. Not only it has the perfect location but also the room was super gorgeous, maintained and clean with a Kitchenette and a large arched window with a gorgeous view of Mykonos. There is also a private outdoor area with a beautiful sitting arrangement. Antastasis was the perfect host, he dropped our luggage to the room, greeted us with cold water, gave us some postcards along with the map of Mykonos and served us the most delicious homemade breakfast every morning at our selected time. It was so beautiful to woke up every morning with that spectacular view and have a most delicious breakfast. Castel Panigirakis is one of the biggest property in Mykonos, so even if you are not staying in the hotel, it is a must visit to watch the most beautiful sunset, windmill and incredible view of Mykons town. You can also enjoy the cocktails at 180 o sunset bar while watching the romantic sunset.

Where to Eat

Mykonos is known for the nightlife and amazing restaurant and bars. There are so many dinning options and cuisines to choose. We tried many restaurants and every restaurant was better than last one we tried. I really ate a lot! I couldn’t get over the fresh Greek salad filled with feta cheese. Our recommendations are- 1) Pasta Fresca BarkiaIf you love pasta you must try this place, all the pastas are homemade and super yummy 2) PepperIt is perfect place for lunch they serve pretty delicious Souvlaki and Greek salad. 3) FamiliaI also love this restaurant with beautiful surrounding and delicious food, the watermelon salad was one of the best we had.

What to Pack

Mykonos is hot in summers. It is also known as a windy island! The weather is quite unpredictable, some night can be chilly. So, when you are packing breezy maxi dresses, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, lots of swimsuit and bikinis, It’s also advisable to pack a light cardigan or shawl to wrap around you when temperature drops at night. Comfy footwear is a must in Mykonos, as there is all about stone paved streets.

Mykons was unforgettable for us in every way! We fell in love with the Island.
