ISLAND TALE– DOHA

Hey Fellas,

A very warm welcome!!! After months of contemplation, finally here we created our own space called “Priyani Flyingbirds” It’s all about two of us.. Me “Chayani” and my hubby “Priyank”. Today, we are going to take you away to our very first story of Banana Island at Doha.

Both me and my hubby are passionate for travel since our young age.. We have been fortunate enough to visit many amazing destinations around the world. Traveling works as oxygen for us and is the necessitate for me and hubby to regain our energy. We love to explore the world, learn new cultures, traditions, and experimenting our tummies with yummy local cuisines. About a three-months ago, my hubby planned this destination for ‘my birthday celebrations’ and staying at this place later came out as a beautiful gift from the nature and a must visit destination in Doha.

How to reach: Banana Island is about a 20-minute luxury ferry ride from the heart of Qatar’s vibrant capital Doha. The ferry runs every half an hour from the Al-Shyoukh Terminal (adjacent to the Museum of Islamic Art). The very first thing you will notice here is the way of greeting. Instead of ‘Good mornings’ and handshakes, the staff say ‘As-salam alaykum’ placing the right hand over heart. We later learned that this is the style adapted by the resort to reflect the culture of the region. This is the point where you gave your luggage to the staff to let them care of it. The terminal is strikingly done with traditional furniture, wooden flooring and beautiful showpieces. By the time, you hear the announcement for your ride; girls can have heena (mehndi) on their hands and enjoy the cashew stuffed dates along with Arabic tea.

On the announcement, we boarded the ferry and the plush interiors of it remind us the business class aircraft cabin. We chose our seats by the window (didn’t want to miss theview!). Our hearts were pounding at a very high speed when our luxury yacht ferry crosses crystal clear water to reach the wonderful island.

Rooms: There are many kinds of rooms and villas. And it is the only place in Qatar where over water villas are situated. Every room comes with the allure of captivating sea view and fusing with sophisticated arrangement design, comforts, and luxury. Here, you will admire the tranquil ocean scenery from the balcony of beautifully appointed room or spacious villa. We recommend choosing from a luxury collection of two and three bed room villas that boast a personal pool. You will feel coaxed into the natural rhythm of island by just drawing back the curtains of the floor to ceiling window, make a tea or coffee, and get cozy on your sofa gazing over a soothing water escape. We took to our private balcony for a fresh breathe and revitalizing sea view and basking on a sun lounger under tropical rays by day and drinking at coaster romance at night.

Dining: The resort offers eight dining options with a choice of Middle Eastern, Italian, Indian, and international cuisines. Resident guests can access all of these eight outlets, while non-resident guests have three outlets to choose from – Azraq, Riva, and Al Nahham. Riva a contemporary Italian restaurant, serves delectable fresh seafood and meat dishes in a trattoria setting. Al Nahham serves aromatic Arabic-Mediterranean cuisine with panoramic view over Doha skyline. We had our lunch at Azraq as there was an especial arrangement for the Christmas eve.

After soaking in the sun and getting lost in the crystal clear waves, we took a break from the sun with light bites for dinner at Q-Lounge. The very fine dining under the stars on a floating deck set the mood for romance and unforgettable holidays with your loved one. Atmospheric evening offered signature international tapas and mezze creations, an ambient soundtrack of international and middle-eastern music, made even more fashionable with shisha.

SPA: After spending the day… discovering the diverse sanctuary of this island, we headed towards a journey of beautifying relaxation before the end the day…the “SPA”.  Here, you can choose from a wealth of revitalizing treatment options such as: the Anantara Signature Massage, Arabian Massage, or the classic Swedish Massage. We opted for In-villa Slumber Guru a 70 minutes unforgettable experience. Taking the importance of a good night’s rest to a whole new level, this in-room ritual begins with a soak in a luxuriant bath infused with essential oils in your candlelit bathroom. We enjoyed a selection of infused herbal teas, served with homemade cookies, and unwind to your choice of soothing music throughout the evening. Sweet dream then awaited us in a sumptuous bed dressed in 1,000 thread count Egyptian cotton.

Activities: This place is not just only to sit back and relax. We explored the coral reefs and the marine life around the island through diving and snorkeling trips. And then we headed to a golf course and tennis court. For kids, cool mint children’s club and peppermint teens’ club provides a wide range of toys and interactive games. And last but not the least; a theater is available for all..
